Canadian Unitarian Council

The Canadian Unitarian Council (CUC) is the national body for Unitarian Universalists in Canada and is a member of the International Council of Unitarians and Universalists. It is run by a board of trustees with representatives from congregations in each region.

The CUC is divided into four regions: British Columbia, Western (Alberta to Thunder Bay, Ontario), Central (between Thunder Bay, Ontario and Kingston, Ontario), and Eastern (Kingston and Ottawa, Ontario and eastward).

Member congregations are served by Service Consultants, Congregational Networkers, and a series of other committees. There are three Congregational Development Consultants-- one for the British Columbia and Western regions, one for the Central region, and one for the Eastern region.

The CUC’s National Conference & Annual General Meeting is the national gathering of Unitarians and Unitarian Universalists from across Canada. The event is hosted by one or more of the member congregations of the Canadian Unitarian Council, and is held over 4 consecutive days ending on Victoria Day. The format of the event changed, following the 2016 gathering:

  • The CUC’s Annual General Meeting (CUC AGM) continues to be held every year. Grand River Unitarian Congregation helps offset the cost of our four delegates to attend the CUC AGM. The four delegates are confirmed at GRU's own Annual General Meeting in February. The delegates make themselves available before the CUC AGM to discuss the resolutions being considered, and then share their experiences after they return. (Application to be a delegate. Send application to president@grandriverunitarian.ca)
  • The CUC National Conference, previously held annually in combination with the CUC AGM, has changed to a bi-annual (every other year) format. The next CUC National Conference will be in 2018, hosted by the First Unitarian Church of Hamilton. Anyone may attend the conference.

Our minister, Rev. Jessica Rodela, gave the sermon at the opening celebration of the 2012 Annual Conference and Meeting of the CUC in 2012.
